A 29-year-old highly decorated Iraqi war veteran had been honorably discharged and returned to the United States when he was charged with animal cruelty while passing through Bucks County. One day, he and his wife stopped for lunch in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. They left their two dogs in his parked car, in the shade, and with the windows down for only a few minutes. An officer in the area noticed the unattended dogs on the hot day. Using an infrared thermometer to measure both the vehicle and dog temperatures, he charged the man with animal cruelty.
