NJ Man Avoids Conspiracy Conviction After A Friend Buys Marijuana

May 30 2016, by Michael Fienman in Case Results, Criminal Defense, Marijuana Charges

A 28-year-old man from New Jersey was driving with a friend in his passenger seat, but unbeknownst to him, the friend had just purchased marijuana prior to getting in the car. Police officers witnessed the transaction and pulled the car over. Even though the driver had no knowledge of the purchase, both men were arrested and the driver was charged with conspiracy. With no previous criminal history, the driver did not want to have a needless conviction attached to all future job applications so he reached out to criminal defense attorney Michael Fienman to help handle this conspiracy charge.

With experience handling similar cases, attorney Michael Fienman began negotiating with the prosecutor to find an alternative penalty for his client. He successfully arranged for the young man to participate in a diversion program with the condition that if he avoids arrest for 12-months, the conspiracy charge will be dismissed. The client was pleased to learn that once this condition is met, he can move past this unfortunate incident.

The outcome of an individual case depends on a variety of factors unique to that case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any similar or future case.
