Retail Theft Expunged For College Student

Feb 19 2016, by Michael Fienman in Case Results, Theft

Not too long ago, a Montgomery County Community College student was caught shoplifting at a local Giant supermarket and charged with retail theft. As a student looking to land a job fresh out of college, she knew her attempts would falter with a theft conviction on her background. Looking for experienced legal direction, Montgomery County criminal defense attorney Michael Fienman chose to represent the young student.

Because of Fienman’s broad experience in young adult cases, and experience before the courts, he was certain that his client’s placement in a Magisterial District Judge diversionary program would be a welcome alternative to the punishments she was facing. As a participant in the judge’s program, she wrote a reflective essay and went through several hours of community service, whereupon completion of all requirements would render her theft charge eligible for expungement. Today our client is a successful, licensed, real estate agent, which may not have been obtainable with a retail theft conviction on her background.

The outcome of an individual case depends on a variety of factors unique to that case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any similar or future case.
