Recently, Philadelphia criminal defense attorney Michael Fienman represented a man, who after a night of drinking too much in Lower Merion Township, found himself faced with public drunkenness charges, which is a summary offense. Since the man was working in academia at a local university, he knew that an embarrassing conviction could cause serious harm to his burgeoning career and he’d need equally serious legal representation to help with this tough situation.
Attorney Fienman took the man’s case and negotiated with the prosecution to facilitate his young client’s participation in an alternative adjudication program. Essentially, once his client completed the required 16 hours or community service, the judge entered a not guilty verdict. Additionally, he can file for an expungement, effectively removing the public drunkenness charges from his record, which went a long way towards setting his mind at ease.
The outcome of an individual case depends on a variety of factors unique to that case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any similar or future case.
