Client Facing Federal Charges Released on Bail

Sep 07 2020, by Michael Fienman in Case Results, Federal Crimes

In a prime example of why legal intervention is important early on if you are ever accused of a crime, federal authorities recently charged a young man with violating the federal statute that forbids transactions prohibited under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Allegedly, the client was planning to buy oil from Iran (which is under economic embargo) and sell it for more than a million dollars in profit on the western market. The government was taking the matter very seriously and Mr. Fienman’s client was quickly arrested.

Fortunately, while the man was held in custody, his parents acted quickly and hired Attorney Michael Fienman. The prosecutors initially wanted an exorbitant bail amount to secure his release, which if not paid, meant sitting in jail while his very complex case is resolved. Obviously wanting his client released fast, attorney Fienman worked with the US Attorney’s Office and arranged for more reasonable bail conditions that ultimately allowed his client to be released from custody.

The outcome of an individual case depends on a variety of factors unique to that case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any similar or future case.
